Eb/F - D/F - Db/F - C/F - B/F - Cmin7#5 - Dbmaj7#11 - Gb7#11
This is a study of slash chords, or chord that are played over an alternate root. I read up on slash chords in Mark Levine’s “The Jazz Theory Book,” and had to try them out in a tune. Although I didn’t improvise over these chords, which is what Mark talks about, I thought it nevertheless interesting to hear the chordal movement over a pedal tone (F). I once again get diatonic over Cmin7#5 (Phrygian) and Dbmaj7#11 (Lydian) before using a tritone substitution on Gb7#11 to get back to Eb/F. This is perhaps the most harmonically complex tune on Fine Dining With An Octopus.
